Musicport Festival 2020
Following recent advice from the UK Government in relation to COVID-19, This year's Musicport Festival will not be going ahead.
The 2021 festival will take place between 22nd-24 October 2021.
Full statement from Musicport:
We are very sad to announce that we have decided to postpone this year’s Musicport Festival and reschedule in October 2021.
The new dates will be 22nd – 24th October 2021.
All ticketholders have been contacted by email, post or telephone. If you have bought tickets and haven’t heard from us please check your spam folder or call 01947 603475 to request a call back.
It has been a difficult decision to take. No one knows when we will be allowed to gather in significant numbers again, or when travel restrictions within or to the UK will be removed. Even if this were to happen before October, the reality is that we wouldn’t be able to make the necessary arrangements in time, or feel confident that we could sell enough tickets to make the event viable. Many people will have been hit very hard financially, others may feel uncomfortable about gathering in such numbers for some while, and finally we will not be able to secure the funding which has allowed us to make the event what it has been for the past 20 years.
We are grateful to Arts Council England for supporting The Porthole Foundation (Musicport) through their Emergency Response Fund.
This means that the organisation will be able to plan for the future, using our fundraising activities to develop the festival for 2021.
We are very grateful to all those who supported our post-Musicport 2019 fundraising campaign on JustGiving.
We raised £2230 after fees and including some donations direct to our bank. We would like to assure you that given the changed circumstances, those donations together with any we receive from ticket sales will be put towards our plans to make Musicport 2021 a party to remember and to celebrate our continued commitment to bringing high quality and diverse music to Whitby.
Jim was well under way with bookings for this October, and it was looking like another festival to remember.
He is now focused on rescheduling as much of that programme as possible for 2021 to bring you the festival we will all be looking for by the time it comes around.
But so far we have:
Les Negresses Vertes, Monsieur Doumani, Dizraeli, Shooglenifty, Meteor Airlines, Moxie, Joshua Burnell Band, My Darling Clementine, DJ Skylarkin.
plus (amongst others)if they're able to confirm: Thomas Mapfumo & The Blacks Unlimited, Bumba Massa, Roberto Fonseca, Orkesta Mendoza, DJ Swami.
Please keep checking back here for further news, and we look forward to seeing you next year!
